About

Hello!  I’m Ari, and I’m a vegan who loves eating, traveling, and especially eating while traveling.  This blog is dedicated to restaurant reviews and advice for traveling while vegan.  As of right now (2013-2014), I am living in Japan, so nearly all of my reviews and advice will be focused on Japan. However, I hope to expand to other countries and regions as I travel.

My reviews will have the following rankings:

  •  ★ = Horrible (would never return)
  •  ★★ = So-so  (Some good aspects but also some serious flaws)
  •  ★★★  = Good
  •  ★★★★ = Very Good (So good I would go out of my way to eat there again)
  • ★★★★★= Exceptional (will reserve this rating for my absolute favorites)

Price Ranges will be as follows (for JAPAN):

  • $ = Cheap (~¥1000 for a meal)
  • $$ = Moderate (¥1000-¥2000 for a meal)
  • $$$ = Slightly Expensive (¥2000-¥3500 for a meal)
  • $$$$ = Expensive (¥3500+ for a meal)

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hi Ari,

are you from Taiwan? I was living there last year.

Im back in Japan now and moving to Edogawabashi area next week.. can’t wait to try that vegan italian place you recommended.. thanks!!

    • I’m actually from California! 🙂 I lived in Japan for a year and was lucky enough to visit Taiwan though. I moved back to the US last August though. I hope you have a lot of fun in Japan! I love that area. It’s crowded in some places, but I just love the river and all the little riverside businesses!

  2. I love your blog so much! I’m planning my 7th visit to Japan now, and I wish I’d known about your blog before!! Your reviews and directions are so helpful, I can’t wait to check out some new vegan-friendly places! ^^

  3. Thank you so much for your posts! As a fellow vegan, this is all very helpful and informative! 🙂 I can’t wait to return to Tokyo and hit up some of these spots/shops I missed on my first trip!

  4. HI, Enjoyed reading and your pics are good. I was wondering how Alishan Cafe in Saitama has never been mentioned. I note I am with Alishan so maybe I have a special perspective. They are 100% veg, 95% organic and 80% vegan ( and that is not counting things with honey as vegan)

    • Honestly, it’s only because I’ve never been there! I try to only post about places I’ve personally been. 😦 I actually lived in Saitama for a year (in Kuki-shi), and fully intended to visit Alishan since I had friends in Hidaka, but never made it out there. Alas, I no longer live in Japan (I’ve been later-posting photos from my last trip in 2015), but hopefully the next time I visit it I’ll make it out!

  5. Hi Ari, i read your blog, and i find it very informatif. Thank u. I am traveling to japan next week. and i am interested to try store yiu mentioned. The vegan ice cream you mentioned. Do you think it contain eggs? Coz i am allergic to it. Thx

    • I’m so sorry for not responding to your comment earlier! No, it definitely should NOT contain eggs. That said, if you are seriously allergic, it’s always worth double checking. Look for ”卵” near the bottom of the label, which is where allergens are listed!
